Connecting multiple mppt - advice needed

Hi,

I’m going to have a Victron instalation from local company. It contains:

- 3x Multiplus II 48/3000

- MPPT SmartSolar 150/100-Tr

- 12x 450Wp panels

- 3x Pylontech US3000C

- GX monitoring

I have bought additional 8x 260Wp panels from a friend for a very good price and want to add them to the system. The company doesn’t want to do that by themselves, so I have to do it by myself. I’ve calculated MPPT from the Victron calculator and here are some questions:

- is it a problem that the two mppts are not the same size?

- will I see both in the VRM portal? I read that if I connect them via VE.Direct, it would be possible. Is that correct?

- just to be sure, with multiple mppts, I also need the SmartShunt

- anything else I need to be aware?

Thanks a lot

- MPPT SmartSolar 150/100-Tr

- 12x 450Wp panels

I would be asking for details about the suitability of a 150-100 being connected to 12 x 450w panels.

Well, that's the company responsibility. I have 5 years warranty, so it should work well :D

The panels are Sunpro 450 Wp https://ecoprodukt.cz/product/31316/download/M6-mono-440-450W.pdf

I've checked the MPPT calculator,

So I guess, it should be ok, shouldn't it?

The figures add up.

Keep an eye on the mppt output though. You could easily loose a couple of strings, and take a while to notice...

No. Just make sure you have pv strings that voltages/currents that are within the mppt's pv input specs.

- will I see both in the VRM portal? I read that if I connect them via VE.Direct, it would be possible. Is that correct?

Yes

- just to be sure, with multiple mppts, I also need the SmartShunt

NO, the BMS will pass voltage/current/SOC onto the GX.

- anything else I need to be aware?

Read the .Pylontech Product & system compatibility page.

Esp the "2. Minimum Battery Sizing Recommendations".

Hello,

thanks a lot for the answers. Ok, I will check the battery sizing.

With 6 parallel strings you have potentially got >60A in 6mm^2 cable and a voltage drop of 4V which is double the 3% allowed. Get them to increase the cable to 10mm^2.
