DC to DC converter with MPPT regulator on output battery

I'm considering using an Orion-tr DC to DC converter to maintain a float voltage on a second battery from an existing bank and solar setup. I have a solar panel and mppt regulator that I could also connect to this battery for supplementing the charge. Both units operate in the same voltage range but does anyone foresee a problem for the DC to DC converter when the mppt regulator pushes the output voltage above float during bulk charging?

No, I don't see a problem with this.
I have a 24V in - 12V out Orion. I have another energy source at it's output terminals which I have seen go over 16V without any issues.

Could another MPPT replace the Orion?

I'm imagining a control to the relay of this MPPT that would switch it off when there is no power coming in from the main solar setup... could it work?
