BMV-700 to PC

Dear all, (new in this forum and victron)

Can I connect directly BMV-700 (not 712) to PC (linux) - usb preferably? What I need? Any available communication protocol description?

I assume the cables provided with the bundle are not sufficient

Thank you in advance for the silly question

@andrewhack

You can get a VE to usb cable. Not in the kit box. I have not used it with linux, only windows and my phone, so can't comment there.

And what are you wanting to do there? Some logging?

USB to RS232 cable 3.3V or the Victron accessory Ve.Direct to USB Adapter.

You can use the Victron Connect program on Windows, or a serial terminal, the BMV broadcasts the values on the interface in human readable form (ASCII), search for Ve.Direct TEXT protocol and Ve.Direct HEX protocol. They are published by victron for download after registering your email.

Remember, the signal level for BMV is 3.3V TTL, do not put RS232 signal levels up it.
3.3V TTL and RS232 are completely different.
