Multiplus-II 12v 2x120 overloading with nothing connected

I'm working on installing a M-II 2x120, and when I turn it on it immediately goes into overload mode (red light), which is odd since the other end of the 6/3 isn't connected to anything yet.

Removing the wires from the connection on the Multiplus-II allows it to work, and I've verified that the wires are not shorted together.

Any Ideas what may be going on?

Mixed with what? As noted, the wires are free on the other end.

Black -> L1

Red -> L2

White -> N

Ground -> PE (Earth)

Ah, so only in the by free just free to air? Weird one. No fly aways? Are they in one conduit?

Is there correct output with only battery connected?

Correct, the far end (~1.5m) is just "hanging", and not in a conduit (in the "basement" of a RV)

I haven't checked the voltages coming out (if any), but the inverter turns on and stays in running mode.
