Do I need a RJ45 or RJ48 cable to connect with MK3-USB interface to a Multiplus Compact device?

I am not able to connect to my Multiplus Compact device.

I use Linux AppImage (v5.59) on my ubuntu (21.10) laptop to connect to my Multiplus Compact 12/1200/50-16 with the MK3-USB interface and a RJ45 UTP cable. I have followed all the recommendations in this link and followed the comment including making the user (myself) a member of a dialup group with this terminal command line.

Nevertheless in the manual (page 20) is written that there are two RJ48 sockets, see screenshot200. While on page 19 is written that you have to use RJ45 UTP cable, see screenshot210.

So my question is: Do I need a RJ45 or RJ48 cable to connect with MK3-USB interface to the Multiplus Compact?

PS all the Bluetooth connections are working well with the Linux AppImage software.

PPS I have problems to upload file or images in this post. I am getting the message "parsing response failed¨. I have solved it with uploads to Imgur.com and parsed the links above.

Why is the manual mentioning RJ48 sockets? See this link:

@adubuntu

I don't know. But basically there is no difference between RJ45 and RJ48 sockets. The latter is commonly used in telephone/ISDN technology, while RJ45 is used for Ethernet. But I can see why this might get confusing.

Problem is that the cables are wired differently. Despite the same sockets/plugs.

I guss it is just a typo, at all other places in all other manuals it is RJ45.

Here an explanation of the difference tween RJ45 and RJ48 http://www.differencebetween.net/technology/difference-between-rj45-and-rj48/

But more important: why am I not able to connect to the Multiplus Compact with a RJ45 cable?

@adubuntu Sorry, can't help on that. I'm not experienced with Ubuntu.

But I will move the thread to the modification section. Hopefully there is someone who can help.

Thank you Matthias and Stefanie for your help. I have solved the problem. I had made a mistake in the spelling of the linux command. I wrote ¨dailout" instead of ¨dialout¨. Now it is connecting.

Only it seems that I need a special victron training and password to alter any of the setting of the Multiplus Compact. I will search first into this forum before I start a new thread.

But this thread can be considered as solved.
