Sizing MPPT for 5 x 550W 24V solar panels for a 12V battery system

Hi,

I am putting together a solar charging system for my 12V battery on a boat.

Option1: 5 x 550W (24V) solar panels, connected in parallel, a total 2750W => charge the 800Ah - 12V battery bank.

Option2: 6 x 200W (12V) Solar panels, connected in parallel (3x2) for 1200W => charge a 800Ah - 12V

- What is the size of the MPPT that I can use with the solar panels?

Thanks,

Solar Panel

2750w / 14v = 196.43a. You sure your battery can handle 196 amps of charge??

Maybe 3 series panels on a 250-100, and 2 series panels on a 150-70.

Perhaps consider 3 x smartsolar MPPT 150/100 controllers. 2 panels in series for 2 of the controllers and one panel just being handled by 1 controller. They can be networked together and it may be handy to include a Smartshunt. That is a relatively big system. 800 Ah battery bank should handle it ok.
