Multiplus II very noisy. Humming

firmware.jpgGood day,we do installation RS450 / 100, 3pcs 3f Multiplus II 48/3000, Cerbo GX. 12kwh pylontech.

6 instalation with same hardware...

Everything works as it should, but ...

something is terribly wrong with the inverters. 50Hz humming is random and terribly noisy. Most at low loads.
If the grid is disconnected, it's better.
The firmware is the last one, xxx494.
The fan is also very noisy but it will be difficult to solve.

The sound is heard in 3-4 seconds on the video.
It doesn't seem like that but it's very! loud.

I don't get it. The inverter is not loaded at that moment, no large fluctuations of any values and at the same time it screams like this.

Multiplus I was better. I did not expect such a downgrade in quality.

Customers complain.

Is there a solution?

Hi

Depending on what the loads are it will make the internal toroid transformer buzz at times.

Equipment with switchmode PSU can make it buzz even a standard toner based printer with roller heaters can make it buzz even my single phase system does the same, not too worried by it.

Fans have always being noisy with these units at low speeds.

Hi there,

Rather than starting a new post, I thought I would comment on this post. I've had my MPII for about 18 months now and whilst it was slightly noisy, the noise has intensified as soon as I had Nbn satellite installed during the week. It'd describe the noise as exact the same as the above video, almost like a pulsing. Could the satellite or NBN be causing the issue and is there a solution to reduce how loud the unit has become?

Cheers,

Jase

Hi

As said in last post the new power supply being switch mode in design in the satellite PSU, as now days will make the Victron inverters noisy due to there low frequency design, a high frequency interter don't do this much at all. nature of the beast.

Most installs i do i mount the Victron gear in its own room area away from the main living areas so it wont matter to much. just a idea,

Thanks for the reply Rob,

I have a custom 'solar shed' that is almost completed and the inverter and batteries will be move there once completed. I was more concerned about 'damaging' the inverter.

Further to this, I noticed that the noise disappears once at sunset. Not sure whether this is normal or indicates something on the charging side?!?

Apologises in advance if this is the dumbest thing you've ever heard!!!!

I also had a very noisy Multiplus II 5000. I took a two way approach:

1. Update the firmware to at least v507 which brings a fix for fan noise on selected MPs

2. I replaced the usual dowels with some soundproofing ones which reduced the humming massively. Example: Link
