Smartshunt victron connect issues

Victron connect 5.8 on a macbook pro reports a smartshunt as VE.Direct Unknown product (A196)

And willl not let me update the firmware reports Bootloader v1.10.

The Cerbo says the firmware on the smartshunt is 4.08 under the device info.

Bluetooth comm via the iOs app Victron Connect is sketchy as well, with the app reporting back the shunt needs a firmware update (and it does not) and locks out any other comm to the shunt.

tried reinstalling VC, resettting the shunt back to factory (no feedback response so not sure if that worked) all seem to do nothing;

please advise.

Hi,

The fact that VictronConnect v5.8 on the macbook reports it as an unknown device is not that weird as support for the SmartShunt was added in VictronConnect v5.9. The complete changelog can be found here: VictronConnect changelog and beta releases [Victron Energy]. So to be able to use it on the macbook a newer VictronConnect is needed.

Then the firmware versions and the necessary update. The SmartShunt internally consists of 2 parts: a SmartShunt part and a BLE (=Bluetooth Low Energy) interface part. When the SmartShunt is connected to the Cerbo, the Cerbo directly communicates with the SmartShunt part and this has firmware version 4.08, which is indeed the latest. When connecting via BLE on iOS, it might be that it is required to update the firmware of the internal BLE interface. Please proceed with this and check if everything works ok after this.

If there are problems with the update or after the update, please attach some screen shots of what is going wrong and perhaps also attach a service report: https://ve3.nl/VictronConnect_How-to-create-a-VictronConnect-Service-Report

Kind regards,
