Passing through AC Source to AC load when battery or inverter has failed

We are building a 3 phase Off Grid system with generator back up using 6 x Quattro 48V /10000

Seeking clarity on whether an external BY pass switch is required so that the generator can feed the loads directly in the event of equipment failure. In other words what condition does the AC source contactor go to if for example the battery supply is removed or the inverter is damaged/faulty

Yes, the bypass is a must if you want power when the inverter system has a problem and needs work done.

Contactors usually go to open (unless they welded shut).

If one unit is off, the whole system is off anyway and the power will not pass through in that condition.
