Confusion regarding bulk charging and float charging

If I have a battery with a terminal voltage less than the absorption voltage but equal to the float voltage and the battery is fully charged and I connect it to the MPPT charger, how does the charger determine that the battery requires float charging and not bulk charging, since bulk charging takes place when the battery terminal voltage is lower than the preset absorption voltage?

If you have the default "adaptive absorption time" algorithm selected the MPPT reduces the absorption time if the battery voltage is higher to account for this.

If you have the tail current chosen to end absorption, if the battery is full then once charging starts the charge current will be low so the absorption period may only last 2-3 minutes as the sun rises.
