MuliPlus 12/3000/120-50 230V: Using battery charger (4Amp) for AGM battery charging

>> QUESTION: Using battery charger (4Amp) for AGM battery charging when unit is set to LiFe batteries... Is this possible ?

Desired solution:

1:

CAN WE USE the 4 Amp DC charge exit "DC STARTER BATTERY OUTPUT" to charge our AGM STARTER BATTERIES of ENGINE + GENERATOS + BOW THRUSTER - when the SERVICE BANK BATTERIES are of type LiFe (drop in BMS - not Victron) and the MULITPLUS is set to Lithium battery type ?

(We do understand that 4Amp is a low charge current ... but if you use the engine a lot ...)

2:

Why VICTRON recommends a BLUE SMART CHARGER 12V for the STARTER battery if you could use the 4Amp charge exit of MULTIPLUS ?

Thanks,

Thomas Friedrich

Actual battery voltage on Lithium will go to your starter battery. Should be OK, lithium has a slightly lower voltage than AGM.

Thanky you for your reply.

Why not connecting a VICTRON BLUE SMART CHARGER for the starter battery to MULTIPLUS AC OUT (NO BREAK) via the PLUS BUS BARE the MuliPlus-INVERTER is feeding ?

So instead relying on shore power for VICTRON BLUE SMART CHARGER as recommended by VICTRON - the STARTER BATTERIEwoulf be charged by the MuliPlus3000 Inverter feeded by the LiFe Service bank ...

(.. which always should have enough Ah left to keep the STARTER battery charged while the boat is for a longer time without shore power or running engine)

see the VICTRON provided schematic I am referencing too https://www.victronenergy.de/upload/documents/MultiPlus-3KW-120VAC-12VDC-400Ah-Li-VEBus-BMS-generator-MPPT-BMV-Cerbo-Orion-Tr-Smarts.pdf
