Orion DC-DC Charger Isolated with a BMV-712 Smart Shunt.

I'm installing an Orion DC-DC Charger Isolated. I also am installing a BMV-712 Smart Shunt. Is it correct that the ground (negative) cable from the supply battery should be connected to the output side of the shunt, as opposed to connecting it directly to the negative terminal of the supply battery straight to the charger?

The shunt is marked. One side is for load, the other for battery. I can't remember the exact markings. The shunt is in the negative battery cable. A thin wire goes to battery positive. Nothing but the shunt connects to the battery negative terminal. All load negatives and the earth/ground are connected to the load side of the shunt.
