Venus OS official v3.80 no vebus AC/DC values shown in UI

Has anyone had issues with v3.80 (official release) and VE.Bus?

After I upgraded from v3.79, I could not see in Venus OS GUI the DC and AC data from my 2* Multiplus in parallel (23/3000/70). No values reported for voltages or current. Redetecting VE.Bus did not produce results. After reverted to v3.79 all is shown again. Tested with a Venus GX device.

Can’t say that has been seen before.
You don’t have a mk3 usb connected as well do you?
Did you try to reboot the device?
They did appear in the device list on the UI though?

Someone has previously reported venus era devices having a performance issue with the newer code (it is quite old now). It will depend on what all it is doing and running.
Any mods or integrations?
You can try to disable UI animations, this can free up some cpu cycles to trace the issue.

I don’t have a mk3 device connected (i have it offline, rarely used).

I did not try to reboot the system, but it did reboot when I selected in Venus OS: “Restart VE.Bus System”, which by the way in a (much) older version of Venus OS did not make the system to reboot. So, the system restarted… lost power for first time in 2 years (this is offgrid with AC input from grid only when needed).

I don’t have any mods, and use old/classic UI. I don’t have animations.

I do have small integration with HA for monitoring purposes.

It might be running out of horsepower.
Try disabling the ui animations and try again.

The reset vebus option has always restarted the inverters, wording changed a while back iirc. Redetect does not.

When offgrid I would be cautious with new software, wait for broader adoption. If you don’t explicitly need features, especially on old hardware, avoid updating unless absolutely necessary.

Agree with you. I violated that rule that i usually follow. Where is the option to disable UI animations?

Settings / General / Display & Appearance, towards the bottom of the page.

.Found it on V2. I use by default the V1

It was on, i disabled it.

Its only for the new UI.

Suggestion to update the title to “VenusOS v3.80 GUI-v1 : no AC or DC values shown in Multiplus menu”, include “GUI-v1” in the tags and remove “DIY” and “parallel”.

I have discovered the same problem, in all my setups.
48V, 12V, single phase or three phase, the phenomenon is the same for all.

In GUI-v1, Device List > Multi (or Quattro) > No values displayed for AC or DC Volts or Amps.
In GUI-v2 and VRM the values are shown correctly.

Probable cause could be an update of the registers that didn’t get ported to GUI-v1.

As far as I know the old GUI is not maintained anymore.
New features/menus are only reachable via the new GUI.
→ time to switch to the new GUI

Very well, maybe you are right…

Performance-wise, will the older products from the GX family still cope with V2 well? In this case, I have Venus GX. I kept using v1 because I had the impression v2 was more demanding.

What older devices do you mean exactly?

The CCGX is already EOL and it it’s not recommended by Victron to go above 3.5X.
I wouldn’t be surprised that the support for the Venus GX will be stopped soon.

As far as I know accessing the new GUI remotely needs less CPU power than the old GUI.

GUI v1 uses a VNC session to transfer the “screen”.
This doesn’t use a lot of CPU power but (a bit) more bandwidth, since the entire screen data needs to be transferred.

GUI v2 uses a window rendering engine at the client side.
Since only value updates are sent from the GX to the client, this very bandwidth efficient.
The annoying catch is that, when connecting directly to the GX, the rendering client (that I typically refer to as a binary blob) needs to be downloaded from the GX first.
This download should only be once at initial connect (afterwards it is cached locally) but it is a relatively big download that can timeout on really slow links.
Work has been done to improve this but I don’t know what the latest status is.

When connecting from VRM, the window rendering client (binary blob) is downloaded from the VRM website and not from the GX.

I don’t expect much difference in load on the GX for either v1 or v2.
GUI v2 has a lot more options so fancy new features (beyond basic configuration) are only available there.
For me, GUI v1 has very good reasons to stay as it’s just so easy to use for initial deployments and I hardly, if ever, use GUI v2.

The download size has significantly reduced in size from when it released.

After upgrade to CERBO MK3 vith newest stable version v3.80-large (official release) there is issue in DEVICE LIST → QUATTRO

no informations are displayed:
DC-voltage
DC-current
AC-IN (all sections)
AC-OUT (all sections)

After I proceed firmware upgrade on QUATTROS (successfully) no change in these quattro outputs…

It’s a known issue and the devs are looking into it.

But you should consider to switch to the new UI.
New features/menus like the Shelly integration, the new opportunity loads or other future features are not available in the old UI.

This is addressed in the latest beta 3.90~4, should be backported to a production 3.8x release in the future.

3.81 is released this fix is included.

I like this friendly - professional attitude from Victron…great company…great filosophy how to run business with trust and friendship
