3.50 / 3.51 : VE.CAN losing connectivity to VM-3P75CT (Grid & AC Loads Enphase)

After updating to 3.50 and also to 3.51 I notice that when selecting the new GUI v2 interface, the Cerbo GX MK2 loses connection to the two Energy Meters (Grid & Enphase AC loads), both connected through VE.Can. It does this intermittently. Switching back to the previous GUI interface, the problem disappears and it is stable again.

It could be a small issue with the low level CAN configuration inside the Venus OS.
Wait a little with this, as there is also an unstable communication with CAN BMSes since last versions.
Probably a solution will be devised for this and probably your problem will also be solved.

3.52 did not solve the issue. It seemed to work at first, but after a minute or so the system went to pass-thru again, not seeing GRID or the PV anymore. Switched back to classic UI again.

Did you try the latest firmware 1.08 for the 3P75CT? I’m on 3.52 and have 2 3P75CT as grid and Enphase pv and have no issues.

Yes I have! I’ve updated it last week.

For reference - I have daisy chained the two together before connecting it to the Cerbo (15m Victron UTP cable from consumer unit in my home to consumer unit in the garage). Not sure if that is similar to your setup?

(before anyone asks… I have black dustcaps in unused ports to protect it)

Also, this UTP cable is connected to the VE.can 2 (no terminator). On VE.can 1 I have the VE to BMS cable (Pylontech Batteries) + terminator.

VE Can has also to be terminated.
This is my setup.

In my case I don’t believe it needs to be terminated as it is an active termination. Mind you… it already works now without one (and has been working for over a month now). I also see that you have a MK1 of the Cerbo having a BMS-Can whereas I have a MK2 with two VE.cans (VE.can 1 and VE.can 2). So this is not exactly the same.

Grr… still don’t know why this is. I might have to swap them to see if it makes any other result, or wait for an update of the firmware to see if it gets resolved.

Hi @anthony_drewes

There is a known issue with the VE.Can 2 port of the Cerbo GX Mk2. It looks like that is causing the issues you’re experiencing as well.

However, you’re saying that you experience no problems at all when running the classic GUI? So the VM energy meters are present and stable when running V1, but disappear when running GUI V2? And do they reappear automatically when loading GUI V1? Or does that need a reboot or some reconfiguration?

Correct. VM energy meters are present and stable running V1, but disappear when switching to V2. They are visible after switching, but after some time (minute) the GUI V2 doesn’t show them anymore and the MPs go to pass-through. Even rebooting the Cerbo doesn’t help this issue.

They indeed reappear automatically when loading the V1 GUI again. No other config needed to my knowledge besides … (trying to remember - I set the User Interface to classical UI in the Display & Language part of the Cerbo). So setting it to v2 interface, this will produce the issue (and also VRM not seeing the GRID & PV Inverter anymore).

I’ll be happy to show this in an online session with Victron if needed.

I gave Rein (support engineer from Victron) remote access to my Cerbo GX MK2 and apparently he has found some issue in the VE.can port 2 when the GUIv2 is running locally. He’s going to try to reproduce the issue and come back to me soon (hopefully). Let’s wait some days while they try to fix this. Keep you all posted.

To be continued …
