Venus OS v3.50 official release - New User Interface, Security and Generator Improvements

UPDATED TO v3.52

Good day all,

On Wednesday October 30st we’ve released Venus OS v3.50 officially. For those involved in the beta test program, thank you all again for all help and feedback!

For the full announcement, read the v3.50 release blog post, and make sure to also see the video and the v3.50 release slide deck which provides a lot more details.

Troubleshooting and known issues

1) Make sure to update to the latest release

The latest official release is Venus OS v3.52. Announcement.

2) GX Touch stuck / next button doesn’t work - fixed per v3.51

There have been several reports where a GX Touch was stuck showing below page, because the next button is not responsive.

This has been fixed per Venus OS v3.51, released on Nov 5th 2024.

In case your system is still stuck showing those pages, here is how to solved that:

  1. Go to Remote Console on LAN or Remote Console or VRM, next go to Settings → Display & language. There scroll to the bottom and change the User Interface setting from Classic UI to New UI.
  2. Remove and thereafter re-insert the HDMI plug of the GX Touch.

This photo shows the screen that is sometimes stuck as well as what the HDMI plug is:

Courtesy to Corey W for the tip on removing-re-inserting the HDMI plug plus photo.

3) Grid or generator says disconnected while its not - fixed per v3.52

This can look like this:

What is wrong here is that the grid is not disconnected, there is an energy meter that which should be visualised.

This issue has been solved per Venus OS v3.52.

4) New UI not accessible via Remote Console on Marine MFDs

The technology behind the new UI offers many advantages. However, one drawback is that it cannot be accessed directly from an MFD due to the nature of the technology used.

How the Remote Console button in the MFD App works depends on the selected UI in the GX:

  • New UI: the MFD App will display an option to connect with a tablet or phone via a QR code
  • Classic UI; the Remote Console feature remains available, just as it was in previous releases.

The UI selection setting is in the Settings → Display & Language menu in the GX, there scroll to the bottom to find the User Interface option.

Further details: see slide 30 & 31 in the v3.50 slide deck.

5) Temperature type configuration (Generic, Room, Outdoor and more) issue - fixed per v3.52

While it is possible to set those new types for temperature sensors connected to the Temperature inputs directly on the GX itself, they don’t work for Ruuvi wireless connected sensors. Also its not possible to set the new types using the Classic UI.

Solved per Venus OS v3.52.

6) No keyboard navigation

Indeed. But it is in the list of things we will look into to implement also in the New UI.

In situations where keyboard navigation is a hard requirement, use the Classic UI instead.

7) New UI doesn’t yet work on RaspberryPi HDMI screen

That is a known issue, and we were not able to spend real attention to that before going for official release with the new user interface. The good news is that it is being worked on, more details (but no fix or workaround) in this thread.

Other issues?

Are you encountering an issue not listed above? Then here is more information:

  1. Make sure to have read the v3.50 release slide deck, including more troubleshooting information, detailed screen shots and so forth.
  2. Check if other people have already posted your issue or question in the special v3.50 New UI subcategory here on Community
  3. Check out the change log of our latest beta version, in the Venus OS Beta section here on Community. To find it, look for the pinned topic announcing the version now available as a public beta.

Thank you everyone for your work on this. I have been excitedly following development of this throughout the Beta. I can’t wait to get this into the hands of our customers!

Just got to get the Victron dc to dc 30amp connected to the system in some way and that would make my Victron life complete

Is there a user manual for v3.51 release? Or is it just stumble around in the hope you find what you are looking for?

Thanks for the great Venus OS v3.5x updates :medal_sports:

I already get used to the new UI and the way to access settings. But for me, the biggest gain is the new remote console web app. So much faster, scales on all devices, a real huge improvement.

Just the Solar Yield is something I do not get. The bars are moving somehow, but I cannot identify what they actually show. Does not seem to be hours or days, at least on my side. Might get fixed - or explained someday  Not a big deal anyway.

I’m sure the manual will be updated with the new features ASAP.

@B51-technician
There’s something wrong in that tile. There are other posts on solar issues too, but this one I responded to… Solar Yield Graph Not Working The issue persists for me.

I updated to 3.5, I can see the new GUI pages in remote console, but the GX still displays the old GUI, how do I get it to display the new?

I have the same issue on a GX touch 50. i have updated it to v3.52, but the interface is exactly the same as it was on version 2.x.

Hi @Jokani and @cucaracha21

See Settings → Display → User interface.

Thank you for asking, I’ll make sure we update our announcements / documentation.

Many thanks Matthijs, that sorted it for me, much appreciated!

I love the new UI. It is clean and intuitive.

One thing I would love to see; Total AC Loads on VRM that include AC loads on a second inverter connected to the GX device using MK3 USB. You could use a stacked image to show multiple between the inverters
