Do not swap to User access level in V3.60 up to ~48.
If you are on the V3.60 Beta (this bug is there on ~46 and ~48, maybe other versions also) and you switch to “User” access level you can not change back to “User and Installer” because the gui has greyed out the “User and Installer” radio button. This radio button should never be greyed out on the “User” access level. I have checked and v3.54 does not suffer from this, it is a beta bug.
This is quite nasty because once you are in “User” level you can not update firmware to a new version with the bug removed, you are quite restricted on what you can do.
I have found one way to get back to “User and Installer” access level was to create a Node Red flow. Luckily I was already on the large version, because if you were not then as a “User” it is unlikely you could update the firmware to the large version.
Set up an inject node which injects the number 1 repeatedly. Connect this to a Custom Output node with the node settings as com.victronenergy.settings and /settings/system/AccessLevel. This will return the Access Level to “User and Installer”. You may be able to recover using other methods of writing to this address or a script but I do not know how to do these types of mods.
I tried that but the option to change ui is greyed out in User only access level, you really are restricted to what you can do. Like you can not roll the firmware back to the previous stable release.
“I tried that but the option to change ui is greyed out”
I don’t understand … this option is not necessary if I change the V2 to V1 in the address bar of the browser window … I automatically end up in the old UI …
of course if you have access via a PC … and don’t just use the GX screen
I am currently remote from the installation using remote console through VRM. If you are local then there may be other options as you say but not via the touch screen or the remote console via VRM.
Thanks to @Tiramisu he has noted that even if you are locked into “User” access level you can still download new firmware through VRM by checking for updates in the DEVICE LIST. Therefore, when a new V3.60 version is released with this fixed you can download via this route and swap back to “User and Installer” access level.
You can not update firmware when set to “User” access level either directly on the Cerbo or via remote console.
Thanks for the report @pwfarnell - we’ll have a new beta version that fixes this as soon as possible, ie. if all goes smoothly then that will be today.
