I’m having a minor problem with my Multiplus II 3000 GX inverter. The USB port has stopped working. That is, it supplies power, but it no longer recognizes the Smart Solar charger. I know the charger is working because I tested it by connecting it directly to the ve.direct port (instead of the shunt port). Is there any way to reset it to get it working again? I’m worried a ground loop occurred during service. Has anyone else had this problem, and is there any way to fix it? Or is the inverter only suitable for repair?
Indeed, after connecting the charger directly to the smartphone via the USB/ve.direct interface, it doesn’t show up in the Victron Connect app. So I suspect it’s the cable’s fault—who would have guessed? I ordered a new cable. I’ll let you know once I test it to see if it works. Thanks for the tip.
Hello again, the new cable arrived. I connected it and everything works. The charger is back and visible in the system. I wouldn’t have thought this USB/VE direct cable was so fragile. It probably has some kind of protection. I wonder if it’s repairable and if I can try replacing something?
Oh, thanks a lot. I’ll try to take it apart and see if I can see any damage. Do you know which component is most likely to fail? I probably created a ground loop when disconnecting/connecting the chargers.
A VE.Direct to USB interface cable can be purchased from Victron Energy (“VE.Direct to USB”, part number ASS030530000). This interface cable provides a virtual comport through USB as well as
galvanic isolation.
