Multiplus II to Show in VRM

Do I need to program the Mulitplus II 3000 to have it show in my device list in VRM?

I see some YouTube videos on setting it using a USB - > VE.direct cable… is that what I need to do?

Also, should the Multiplus II show up connected with a CAT6 cable via the RJ45 VE.Bus port to a Cerbo GX… I don’t see it with that connection.

Thanks

You need the RJ45 VE.Bus connection from the MultiPlus to the GX device.
Make sure to use the correct port at the GX device and DON’T use a terminator.

Good morning John,

You are looking for a VE.Bus System in your device list and not a MultiPlus II device. Right?

When I look in my phone on VictronConnect I only see my Cerbo GX, a MPPT 100/50, and a BMV- 700. I don’t see the Mulit Plus II 3000 12-120. I have a CAT6 RJ 45 cable connected betweeen the Cerbo GX and the MP II.

I do have several VE.Bus cables, and a VE.Bus-USB cable.

I thought the Cerbo and MP II could communicate via the RJ45 (computer network cable) ports?

Thanks

Are the Victron brand UTP cables the same as a standard RJ45 Ethernet cable?

Ok. Let’s go back a step or two. Do you see your MultiPlus on the Cerbo screen / venus.local?

Please try visiting the VRM at VRM Portal - Victron Energy and select Device List from the menu. Do you have the VE.bus System in there?

Yes. I use a normal UTP cable between my Cerbo GX MKII and the Multiplus II. Nothing fancy.

Don’t you worry, There is no Multiplus II in my Victron Connnect app, but everything is working flawlessly. I can find mine on the Cerbo and in portals. Please do not try to use the Ethernet port or one of the supplied terminators.

No, I don’t see it on the Cerbo screen.
The MP II is working fine, I will try to find another ethernet cable and see if I can get that to work.
Thanks

Please check again that you use the correct ports and add photos of the connections.

Just to reconfirm the point made earlier, VictronConnect will not show VE Bus devices connected to a Cerbo GX.

Hmm. Ok. You need a straight cable. As in 1 to 1 etc. You could check this with a multimeter. Tips wide? Use a needle or some kind of small wire.

Also. Make sure that the RJ-45 plug is properly inserted. There are two ports. On both ends. Try both of them.

Also. Did you do a firmware update and set the grid code? With a MK3 for example?

I make my own ethernet cables and I have a cable tester :+1:

Thats my next step, I won’t be able to get to it until tommorow, thanks for your help. :slightly_smiling_face:

Excellent :ok_hand: Keep us posted.

I got it going with a new cable, and it really helped that I plugged it into the VE.bus port instead of the Ethernet port. :+1:

Thanks for your help :slightly_smiling_face:
