When you search for “multiplus” on the professional firmware website, you find two eintries.
The MultiPlus-II GX 48/5000/70-50 has VE.Bus
try ”VE.Bus Multis, Inverters and Quattros” directory … the “Multi-RS- …“ directory has an other firmware version.
This is the directory where you find the “Changelog firmware.docx” too. To verify if it is necessary to update FW - or not.

This firmware addresses an issue which results in spurious errors occurring on some 48V models in the SN range HQ2518 up to including HQ2611.
The errors in question occur especially on systems using either Australian grid code or on systems with disabled GND relay.
The firmware is not released for all models since not all models suffer from this issue .
If firmware for your model is not present then you can safely assume that your model does not exhibit this erroneous behavior.
(By the way I am not quite sure if the fw update is still done and you just have to download and modify the configuration for the newer firmware release …
Maybe it is still downloaded during the automatic update process, have a look in your downloads directory… )
If the update failed the unit would not be on..
As mentioned, updates reset the unit to default and it has to, as per the process shared above, be restored.
Too many people don’t understand the process, insist on loading an update they do not need and end up with a factory reset device.
All your settings are gone.
Under VRM device list go to remote Remote VEConfigure and download the current inverter setting.
If this works your inverters are alive.
The reason why DESS isn’t working anymore is that the ESS assistant is gone.
Also check your battery and charger settings, they also changed.
Take a deep breath…
all is fine, nothing is bricked. Fw update is still done.
Role back to older firmware will not help. Your MultiPlus has the (default factory settings now.)
You just have to configure your MultiPlus (default factory) settings.
(Maybe ask the person who set up your MultiPlus for help.)
Install and open (update) “VE Configuration tools for VE.Bus Products” software from public Victron download page.
Do you have a copy of your VE Configure file?
If not download it. VRM Portal Device List, VE Configure.
(Or use the MK3 USB Adapter cable to connect direct to Multi)
Search on your hard disk/ download directory for a .rvms or .vsc file.
Hopefully it is still downloaded during the automatic VRM portal update process.
When you open the downloaded .rvms remote file the Configuration tool will convert/ update it automaticly.
Store new config and upload it via VRM VE Configure page to your Multi(s).
All is done. Wait until the MultiPlus is syncronised and power on again.
If this does not work, you have to do it manualy, open the software twice (It is possible when I remember right).
Open one Window with your old config.
Open next window with the default config you just downloaded.
Readout the old settings point by point/ step by step/ every rule and type it in the new config window.
(You have to do it for every updated MultiPlus, if it is a parallel 3-Phase system?)
Store new config and upload it via VRM VE Configure page to your Multi(s)
(Or use the MK3 USB Adapter cable to connect direct to Multi)
Wait until the MultiPlus is syncronised and power on again.
When all works fine still download the actual config and save the new settings file on your computer
and save it on the Cerbo GX as well.
I hope this short discription helps you a little bit.
I did the entire installation myself, so I cannot rely on an installer.
I am currently at work and cannot access my PC locally.
If I remember correctly, I configured the Multiplus via VRM VE Configure using the MK3 USB connection. I believe I saved these settings. Are these the settings necessary to get the system up and running again?
Yes, now ESS assistant is missing and that is the reason why DESS isn’t working anymore.
You also have to check all battery settings they also changed.
I don`t know how you did the update? Via VRM portal, or local with MK3 USB Adapter cable?
If you do it via VRM Portal, first check your download directory like I mentioned at the last post.
open .rvms file, your local installed VE Configuration tool will convert it more or less automaticly for you.
Maybe you see * at your (ESS) rules you have to klick right mouse menue to start convert to new firmware or something like that.
Save the converted configuration file eg. in your downloads directory. Upload it via VRM “VEConfigure” button/ portal to your installation.
It is the download folder on your computer/ laptop/ tablett,… The device with that you open the Victron VRM website and click on VRM update.
Hopefully the same device where your “VE Configuration tools for VE.Bus Products” is installed.
Otherway copy the file I don`t know… from your smartphone/ tablet/ … to your computer…
with your laptop go to VRM open Remote VEConfigure en press download.
File will be stored in download folder.
Than open this file with VEconfig, make the changes and than upload the settings.
The inverters will turn off after the upload, I would not advice to do this when you are not home.
Was under the impression it pulls the config before pushing the firmware. Loss of internet breaks the ability to upload the config but you should still have a copy of the old config and need to follow the merge process in the update FAQ:
Q3: Merging files: how to recover the old settings when something went wrong
In VRM → Device List → Remote VEConfigure, and there click download.
Use the merge function in VE.Bus System Configurator:
