Multiplus II firmware update V560 failed

I had that issue myself a few times, the last time just a few weeks ago.

The config file might be already saved on the GX device the upload from GX to VRM and download in the browser is the very last step in the update process and that can fail.

That’s the reason why I always download the setting manually before the update.

That’s exactly what I wrote in my first answer here…

Problem is that the inverters do reboot after firmware update and than you lose WiFi connection.
After the power is back the install process freezes and the config will not be send to the inverters anymore.

That’s indeed what happened.

The whole house was without power. PC and network as well.

I downloaded the configure file (*.rvsc) and upload it again, but nothing happens

Did you made the changes in VEconfig?

@ Wiebo,
after the Fw update, your MultiPlus config ist a emty - clean - reset do factory defaults config file.
It is like your Multi came fresh from factory.
Now you download the emty - clean - reset do factory defaults - config file from MultiPlus.
And then you upload the same emty - clean - reset do factory defaults config file again???

You have to merge/ convert/ edit it bevore, or you upload it again.
Or use the two Window method and restore all your old settings manually.
Or you know what is to do and just type in all settings you need for your system.

After you edit and check your settings upload the config file.

You downloaded a blank default configuration. You have to enter all the settings again and configure the assistants manually.

So I’ve to work with VE Configure using the MK3 USB connection then?

And re do the settings as I’ve done for the first time on the Multipus?

Please read the provided instructions (there is also a video):

@ Wiebo,

Sory I never had this problem… but I will try to explain the three possible ways again in other words.
I Hope I can help you.

It does not matter on which way you carry the settings data from/to the MultiPlus.

  • You can use the MK3 USB Adapter cable and do it locally
    OR
  • You can use the VRM Portal and download/ upload the file remotely.

(When I remember right local MK3 USB Adapter cable generates an .vsc file
The VRM download generates a .rvms (remote) file.)

We figure out you had “black light” - blackout your home grid during update because you forgott to switch MultiPlus in bypass mode, Grid direct to Home.
So - thanks to Mathias and ron_h - we know the automatic config download prozess failed.
You don`t have a .rvms file downloaded during update procedure automaticly.
You don`t have the .rvms file in the download directory of your PC webbrowser… ?!?

Okay, lets take the other path…
You wrote you mayby have the settings file from your first installation on your harddisk… .vsc file. Do you ?!?

klick on this file on your PC HDD, “VE Configuration tool” software should open.
klick the options menu and check if “VE Configuration tool” software is updated.
If not, update the software please, we need the actual version to generate an actual config file.
Let the software Window with your old config open.

You need the (after Fw update) settings file from your MultiPlus.
Use the file you download today and open it in a second “VE Configuration tool” software window.

Like I try to explain earlier
Readout the old settings manually point by point/ step by step/ every rule in the first … eg. left/upper Window
and type it manually in the new config second … eg. right/ lower window.

When you edit this config file upload it to the Multiplus (on the same Way you download it) VRM Portal upload.

The stony way.
you don`t have your first installation config file. ?!?
Open the config file you download via VRM today.
Klick the options menu and check if “VE Configuration tool” software is updated.
If not, update the software please, we need the actual version to generate an actual config file.
Edit all settings like you dit it at the first installation.
When you edit this config file upload it to the Multiplus (on the same Way) VRM Portal upload

Hello everyone. I had indeed taken a backup of my configuration.

Using the VEConfig tool, I was able to import a previously created backup with a ‘vsc’ extention into the VEConfig tool. After reviewing all the settings, I sent everything to the Multiplus via the MK3 USB connection using the “Send Settings” button.

The Multiplus made a number of settings (clicking) and after a while it came back to life. DESS is available again.

The dynamic prices for the next day are not available yet, but I hope this gets resolved soon (check tomorrow again).

For the time being, I am going to let everything run in bypass mode until everything is back in order.

Thanks you all for your support.

Great to hear,

For the next available firmware update … (lesson learned)

  • first check firmware changelog on Victron professional page
Is the change security or safety relevant?
Is it a function you need/ want to have?
or is it irrelevant for your system? In this case never touch a running system.

  • When you decide to update the firmware …
read the fu… manual and reed all the hints in the popup windows.

  • backup/ save the old configuration, have a look at the old configuration, make screenshots, …

  • When you want to update your Multi(s) switch them in Bypass Mode. Load/ house direct to grid.

  • update the firmware

  • if you update a MultiPlus it starts with factory settings -
Start “VE Configuration tool” software klick the options menu and check if it is updated.
merge/ convert the settings and upload the new settings to the Multi

  • check all the settings (maybe they are not copied/ converted one by one during the firmware update.)

  • backup 1 make a loal copy of the new settings on your PC

  • backup 2 On CerboGX, open Settings - Devices - Multiplus… - Advanced - Backup & Restore (Backup name eg. Date.)

  • check with Select backup file to restore if you hava a eg. 560-2026-04-16 file.

FWIW, I have a new system and got it all hooked up and powered on with a DC power supply. Multiplus II 12v 2x120, Lynx Shunt, Disrtibutor, PowerIn, MPPT 100/50, and Cerbo. I had only set the charger on the multiplus to off to ensure it did not try to charge my power supply lol. I was just upgrading all of the equipment while it was on the bench before deployment and it showed v5.56 for my new MP2. I upgraded and it hung the process on reboot. After quite a long while it “completed,” but it was factory reset at the time. Since I had not changed much, it wasn’t a big deal. Just another data point of a somewhat flawed update. I did the update via the MK3 for that device on a Surface Pro 7 with Win11.

Thanks, pv-bauer.

I will certainly follow your instructions. I will create a work procedure equipped with sufficient screenshots and your step-by-step plan.

I will also think twice next time before performing a new firmware update.
Although I must say that this update was offered to me by the Victron Energy website itself.

I had also performed firmware updates without problems before. But back then, I wasn’t working in island mode.

My biggest mistake was not bypassing the inverter. I definitely need to keep an eye on that next time.
Anyway, thanks again.
