Hello,
When can we expect a bidirectional Victron EVCS charger for V2H and/or V2G?
Kind regards ![]()
If you’re interested in the subject, head over to the Global Forum HERE
The automotive industry is taking this seriously; there are already several models offering V2L, V2H, V2G, V2V, V2X, etc.
An American solar brand already offers a bidirectional charger option on the US market.
When will we see it in France?
A battery is the most expensive part of an electrical system (5 kWh = €2,000), and cars have batteries ranging from 22 kWh to 80 kWh.
Having a bidirectional charger would be a plus for Victron.
When will Victron offer one?
Hyundai has been carrying out full-scale tests on this subject for quite some time now; see here
As for Victron, I think they’re waiting for a definitive European standard before modifying their EVCS
There are already quite a few cars that claim to offer V2H/V2G:
- the Nissan Leaf and Nissan e-NV200 models
- the Mitsubishi i-MiEV and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV
- the Peugeot iON
- the Citroën C-ZERO
Now that surplus electricity is bought back at 4¢/kWh in France instead of 13¢, while we pay 25¢ for our electricity,
there’s an obvious benefit to using bidirectional charging with electric cars to optimise self-consumption.
A second-hand electric car is cheaper than a solar battery. You can find used cars for €4,000–8,000 with 22/38 kWh batteries, whereas a new solar battery costs about the same, or even four times as much depending on the brand. And a car has other uses besides being a solar battery
It would be a shame to have to buy a Mobilize charging point.
Especially since, when you read the small print, they don’t want you to have solar panels on your house if you want to take out the contract.
Don’t think for a moment that the state will let itself be deprived of this HUGE financial windfall (VAT and other taxes) from fuel and public charging stations, while letting us quietly charge our EVs using our solar panels…
The grants are already gone, there’s a monthly charge for OA producers on their EDF bill, and this is only the beginning… You’ve been warned!
The Kia EV6 already does it. I even saw a video of a Belgian bloke who installed it.
A year has gone by since my first post. Where does Victron stand on the subject of a bidirectional V2H charger?
As has been explained quite a few times, the standard doesn’t exist yet, so you can’t bring a product to market based on nothing.
Manufacturers who choose to do so now risk ending up with something obsolete when the standard comes out!
The next charging station will be ready to receive an update once the communications protocol is made official, so it will be easy to make it compatible with V2H/V2G.
Hi!
BMW and E.ON have recently issued a press release announcing a joint V2G project.
In short, BMW iX3 users who make their vehicle available to help stabilise the grid receive an annual bonus of up to €720 in the form of free vehicle charging.
Best wishes,
Ewald
As I’m not an avid reader of standards, especially given how quickly the EU churns them out, I thought I’d ask.
@thierry_cortassa there’s no need to read any criticism of Victron into my question or invent any on my part.
@DayAndNight thanks Ewald for your feedback. Is this project only for Germany?
I suppose, given their glaring energy shortage, I can understand why they need to use every available resource ![]()
Hello Thierry,
Do you know when the new kiosk will be available?
Thanks
It’s hard to say; it depends on external factors like certifications, but it should happen sometime this year!
Certification compliant with the ISO 15118-20 standard (bidirectional charging)?
Will the Victron EVC300400300 charging station be compatible after a software update, or will it require a new hardware model?
Apparently, this is planned for the new Tesla V4 charging station in the future, for V2H. Video here:
Nouveau Tesla Wall Connector V4 en France : La fin du casse-tĂŞte IRVE ? - Electro Borne
Already available with V2C Trydan Bidirectional: V2L and V2G/V2H
The new terminal will be compatible with the addition of a small internal module and a software update.
Hi @thierry_cortassa, feel free to keep us posted even at an early stage ![]()
Good evening, Thierry. So, if I buy the current VICTRON EV Charging Station NS, will I be able to convert it to V2L in the future with a “small internal module and a software update”?
My EV is on its way, but I’ve seen this V2H topic going round the VICTRON Community for 2 years without any results, and I wanted to make sure something is actually coming (Christmas 2026 guaranteed?) ![]()
Thanks for clarifying
PaulR
No, the hardware isn’t the same; you need v2 for that.
Kind regards
