Failed 150 70 firmware update [resolved]

Hello everybody,
I would be grateul for some assistance please. I have 2 MPPT chargers attached to a multiplus 12/3000 and 4 x 110 Ah Victron 12v batteries. The small one is a 75/15 and the large is a mppt 150 70. This setup has been 100% reliable for the last 18 months.
The 150/50 needed a firmware upgrade from (I think 3.16 to a later version).
Connecting thru the victronconnect app & bluetooth, I started the update, staring firmly at the screen for it to finish uninterrupted, which it did.
The update failed, with an X88 error message, followed by a DBUS-MQTT error.

The 150 70 unit itself now has the absorption and Float LED flashing alernatively and I can’t see it on the Cerbo GX nor on the VIctronConnect app.

[Update: For future people looking at this thread I should have looked under “local” and not under VRM - the device was there after resetting it]
I have followed the basic instruction in the manual to shutdown and restart (section 6.5) by disconnecting PV then battery, then reconnecting battery and then PV, but this has not fixed the issue.

I would be really grateful for advise & guidance for a non-victron expert to follow to assist in fixing this.

many thanks in advance,
Martin

Hi Martin, you should give your Victron installer or distributor a call. Have your serial number ready for them. Your MPPT sounds like it might be stuck in bootloader mode. You could try disconnecting both PV and battery connections (just the positive of each would suffice) and leave it disconnected for a while. How long? Dunno. Try an hour then reconnect. The goal is to get the MPPT in a state where you can try updating the firmware again. If you can’t, talk to your dealer about next steps.

thanks Ed.
I left it for 3 minutes and no difference. However, came back 2 hours later and all lights are now off on the front of the MPPT device.
I did then disconnect both the PV and then battery cables, and reconnected in the correct order, but no float or absorption light at all.
I might leave them both disconnected overnight to see if that assists too.

many thanks
Martin

Hi @it344x

For your information, you did not connect via bluetooth, but via the local network or VRM website to the GX device and via the GX device to the SmartSolar. This is important because this means that there is a GX device and there are more options to try to finish the update.

The first that you can try is to perform the firmware update via the VRM website.

The second is to check whether the SmartSolar is directly visible via bluetooth in the Local tab of VictronConnect. When it is visible and you connect via bluetooth, VictronConnect should automatically show you the firmware update page again.

With kind regards,

Many thanks Thiemo!
I got confused by connected using the app and then VRM, where you get the same accedss through “devices” as you do looking at the “local” tab, and yes indeed - when I look under “local” I could see the 150/70.
I was able to see the 150/70, update the firmware and it has now appeared as before.
Very grateful for the steer.
