Multiplus ii not charging after failed firmware update via VRM

Hi,

Because the Victron community site mentions that I cannot use it anymore, I will report my issue here.

The issue is that my multiplus ii does not charge from grid. Grid passthru and converter works well. It seems like after a failed upgrade of the firmware of multiplus, the issue has started. The multiplus ii indicates absorption or float, bit the charge current is 0.0 and my battery voltage is now 12.96V.

Here my message from the community thread (https://community.victronenergy.com/questions/322747/remote-firmware-update-multiplus-fails-code-122.html?childToView=333201#answer-333201):

My multiplus als doesn’t charge anymore after I performed the failed update. Luckily I had enough sun last days, so could do without grid charging until now. But now I have seen that it doesn’t work anymore. Where can I set the charge voltage back again? I have VE bus BMS V2 and Ekrano GX. Cannot find the charge voltage. I have a 200Ah victron lithium battery. I also installed a BMV 712 in the meantime. The voltage drops to 13V now, but charger stays in float and the DC current is 0.0. Also when I switch multiplus off and on, the charger goes into absorption, but also no DC current then.

I am on holiday, don’t have a laptop with me. Just restored a config file of 10 days ago, but that didn’t solve the charge issue…

I see in my history that vey tiny amount of grid power went into the battery, but these are 0.02kWh. So maybe the problem is not related to the failed upgrade, also because the restore of config did not solve the issue.
@guystewart: as requested, I mention you here because Victron community should not be used anymore. Thanks for helping out.

Focussing on the possibility that there is a failure in the firmware, there is not to much you can do without a laptop with MK3 USB dongle, or Cerbo GX with internet connection.
If your Multiplus II is connected to a Cerbo GX, and has connection with the internet, you could contact Victron by phone or mail, and ask if they can help you remotely.
Otherwise you could search for a local Victron dealer/installer, and ask them for help.

I indeed have a GX device, Ekrano GX, so that should be possible. I will see if somebody here can help, otherwise I’ll ask indeed for remote help. Thnx

Did you perform the firmware update trough VRM? It tells you to update the config in VEconfig and then reupload to the inverter.

Firmware updates force settings back to factory defaults on inverters

Thanks for you response. Yes I did it through VRM. Yesterday I have restored successfully a config file from a few days before the update moment. But that didn’t solve the issue. I wonder whether it is related to the failed update.
I think it might be something else. I have the Multiplus-II 12/3000/120 in combination with a Victron Smart battery 200Ah. I have seen that this version of the multiplus requires at least 400Ah, I wonder whether that is indeed true and could cause the issue…

Hi,

Problem is solved. It was indeed the absorption and float voltage settings, both were at 12V, maybe because of the failed software upgrade. After the support department of the company where I bought the multiplus, read out the VE Config file, updated the settings to 14.4 and 13.8V, and restored it, the multiplus started charging again in bulk mode.
