ESS Relay test will not complete - SOC 100%

I have read through the basic information regarding ESS relay test and cannot fathom why the test is still pending. The system had been running well until some grid frequency anomalies yesterday.

Ideas anyone?

If you are using a single-phase ESS, your Multi Plus is connected to the wrong phase. It is currently feeding back into L2… this cannot function properly as an ESS because it should be connected to L1…

No, as you can see, it is a 3 phase system.. In the above screen shot It is only feeding L2 as demand is only on L1 and L3.

No physical changes to the system in the last 3 years of normal operation!

All right…I’ve recognized it… :expressionless_face:
Then it could have something to do with the grid connection. Before connecting to the grid, the Multi checks the resistance between the N and PE conductors so that it can open the grounding relay itself. If there is an error here and the grounding resistance is too high… the ESS test remains incomplete.
Check the connections to the grid, neutral, and ground again… and restart the VE Bus System…
Was there any work done on the grid outside the building?

Thanks. No works locally but a massive solar farm being installed only half a K away. The solar was going out on frequency variations before this started.

I will try your solution and report back,

… something I just noticed … the mains voltage of L2 is quite high … It may well be that this is why the multis don’t want to switch on … JUST A SUSPICION … :innocent:

That gone well, (not)

I updated the firmware’s on the GX and my multis whilst the PV was isolated and the building was mechanically switched to grid only. Now I have lost all my configuration settings. The manual said that the config would be re-installed after the firmware update? How do I reload the original/correct config before re-enabling the system?

Did you back up your old settings?
When updating the firmware of the Multi, everything is ALWAYS reset and the configuration MUST be set up again.
In the GX, everything remains as before…

Nope. Did it by the VRM app and didn’t back the settings up. The manual led me to believe that it would do that itself. The process said it was saving the configueration. Where would it store it?

If you haven’t saved the settings… we all have a problem.
You definitely need the VE Bus System Configurator software… if it’s not already installed…
Who configured the system?

It was done by Solaralgarve.

The instructions said I should be able to see the file in the VE bus system and double click on it to re-install. Is this not the case?

If you can upload “a file” via VRM… maybe you have one on your PC… it must be an *.rvms file…

Nope, The update was done as per the instructions on the app. It said nothing about manually saving a file or needing any other software.

What do you suggest?

You HAVE to get hold of the old configuration file somehow… or we’ll have to reconfigure the entire system… Without any knowledge on your part… that will be difficult, if not impossible…
Watch videos on YouTube… and slowly learn how to use your system… It may sound silly, but you’ll have to figure this out on your own… Feel free to ask questions, but you’ll have to learn the basics yourself.

Victron really need to review their instructions then. At no point in the process did it suggest any of what you suggest now.

I have a screenshot of the instructions. “Open the provided file in the VE bus system configurator by double clicking on it”???

In my opinion, there is a note BEFORE performing the update … :innocent:

I designed the system and had the specialist install and configure it:

Grid connected 3Ph system

10Kw PV on Fronius Inverter

15kW byd box

3 off Multiplus II 48/5000/70-50

Solar is on AC Out 1 which is configured as Essential load and AC out 2 is non essential.

What more do you need?

I cant see anything!

And he NEVER left you a backup copy of the system file?
Do you have an MK3 interface for configuration?

Go to VRM and download the current system configuration…

No the the config file or the Mk 3 interface. If I need to get one I will

I cant get hold of the local specialist!
