Cerbo gx device periodically drops out

My Victron Cerbo GX Mask II device connected to my Lynx BMS NG 1000 periodically drops out and can only be reconnected by turning off the BMS Mode switch and then turning back on with Victron Connect. I can also restart the GX device by disconnecting the 12VDC power supply and reconnecting it, but this is difficult to access. How do i fix?

What if you connect it directly to the battery?

The Cerbo Gx, Lynx BMS, Lynx Distributors, Quattro and MPPT are in the same compartment and are difficult to access. I need to switch the Cerbo GX off/on remotely or wire an on/off switch for the Cerbo GX on my control panel where I can access it.

I would like to understand why the Cerbo GX periodically drops out. Any other suggestions?

Do you have the small inline fuse holder, check that this is in good condition, spring tension good, no oxidation or corrosion on the contacts. These sometimes give problems on the BMV / SmartShunt sense wires.

Hard to diagnose with limited info, for comparison my Cerbo has run for 10 months continuous powered from Lynx NG 500 BMS.

If nothing helps, try to read the log files with ssh (Linux command line /WinSCP in the Cerbo)

Thanks.

I have the Cerbo GX MkII with no display. I will check the fuse, but I am all at sea trying to find any Victron logs on my MacBook Pro. About to give up and wire an on/off switch for the Cerbo GX on my control panel.

OK, some positive news. I found a way of rebooting the Cerbo GX device remotely using the VRM Online Portal.

  1. Logon to VRM Online Portal at “vrm.victronenergy.com
  2. Go to my installation, “Odysseus”, then “Device List”
  3. Select “Gateway”, then "Reboot GX device”
  4. Wait 5 minutes for Cerbo to reboot, then check again

No longer need an on/off switch to restart my Cerbo GX device.

Does “Reboot now“ in your Cerbo, local ip address not work?

In your Cerbo GX settings for VRM you can set a reboot if contact is lost after a certain time period.

When you say your Verbo “drops out” do you mean physically shuts down or just loses contact.

Thanks for the replies Fredd and pwfarnell. My Cerbo GX loses contact, but does not shutdown.

How do I “Reboot now“ in my Cerbo. I have rebooted the network and the Cerbo GX shows that it is connected to it, but it does not respond.

Yes, I will try setting reboot if contact is lost on VRM. Thanks.

Still not sure what causes my Cerbo GX to lose connection every 2 - 4 days - think it is something to do with switching my WIFI to another and back. Also found that Rebooting the GX Device with VRM does not always work. However, I opened the VRM Online Portal at “http://venus.local” and set VMR to “Reboot device when no contact”, as you suggested. That seems to work - thanks.

I prefer always use your local ip. I have seen that .local (other project) not always work.

Thanks Fredd

It’s been supported on all operating systems for a long time, at least the last decade.
There are some systems which have an issue accessing the new UI via the IP address, but .local works.
