VRM and remote CERBO GX

I have a Cerbo GX in a remote installation and access it via VRM. I use a wireless connection to a cellphone router using the 02 network in the UK. I have not had any data for 3 days now and am trying to figure out what has happened. The Cerbo is power from 360aH lead acid batteries which are charged by solar. I can see that the solar was providing enough charge to keep the batteries charged, this was monitored by Victron smart MPPT charger and BMV700 battery monitor. Is it possible that although I can no longer receive any data via VRM that the Victron Server is still being updated. I have the VRM Portal ID and VRM Site ID but not sure if I should post them here or not. The boat is 500 miles away and we do not plan to visit until the end of March. Many thanks for any help.

The VRM Site ID is enough. I removed the VRM portal ID.

It might be related to this: “GX GSM/LTE/4G modem: Fix connection to Three UK. This might be related to the UK shutting down 3G support, so potentially helps for more network service providers.”

That v3.80~2 beta though. I won’t advise you to try installing betas though when you are 500 miles away.

VRM hasn’t seen any updates as well for the last 3days as far as I can see.

Not that it helps you right now, but in the VRM settings, there is an option “Reboot device when no contact” which can be very useful - sometimes the WiFi on Venus devices drops out if the AP it’s connected to changes somehow (seems to be a problem particularly with sites using Starlink).

Many thanks for your help and removing the VRM portal ID, I have posted it by accident!

Dean,

Many thanks, I shall have a look at that when I visit

I’ve had similar problems occasionally in the past, the only fix was to reboot the router – luckily I could get the marina staff to do it instead of driving 150 miles. The router (Zyxel NR5103E) thought everything was OK (including WiFi and cellular) but there was no actual link to the network.

I thought it was the router so swapped to a GL.iNet Spitz AX, which also dropped the link a few weeks later… :frowning:

However this can be programmed to reboot regularly (e.g. at 3am every day), since doing this I’ve never had any problem.

Never mind, that will only work for 4G modems connected to the Cerbo, but you have a external router. Might be the same root cause though, UK is shutting down 3G support.
