Victron 90Ah battery no longer holding charge

First solar installation! Uses MPPT 75/15 solar controller and Victron 90Ah gel battery. After two summers, the batter is no longer holding charge. Is this normal life time for this battery?

Hi @Borgnetoplombe,

The normal operating life of a battery can vary so much depending on the conditions and how it used.

The spec sheet for your model will give some indication of expected number of cycles. This can be reduced by discharging more deeply, or increased by discharging less.

Leaving a lead acid battery at low states of charge (i.e. not fully recharging it each day), can also take its toll on life.

The temperature of the lead acid battery will play a huge role. For each 10 degree C increase in average temperature above 25 degrees the battery life will halve.

Margreet does a good job in this training explaining what to expect from lead acid batteries and how to extend (or shorten) their life.
