Do I need to add a smart sense device?

I updated firmware on app and two smart controllers today, May 2020 and I want to synchronize the charging. Do I need to add a smart sense? If I do, is it best to install the smart sense partway down a 5 battery bank to allow for cable losses between batteries?

What are you using as a battery monitor ?

I am using a Balmar SG200 battery monitor that was previously installed. I ordered the smart sense after more reading. It seems this is needed to network my two controllers together.
