Orion 12/12-18A DC-DC charger - direct alternator input to charge lithium start battery?

I am considering replacing lead-acid start battery with Epoch Cranking & Deep Cycle Lithium Battery (Dual Purpose) for 17' fishing boat. I am concerned about the Honda BF90 alternator burning up. Can I connect the alternator output directly to the Orion input, and use the Orion output to charge the lithium battery?

No, this has been asked many times and there are many reports of people who do this having unstable voltage.
