Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC Charger Isolated - charging Victron 12V/220Ah GEL Deep Cycle Battery

Hi all


new here.


Is the Orion Smart Charger a better option to charge the Victron 12v Gel Deep Cycle, instead of charging directly the Gel Battery via a non Smart Alternator?

Regular alternators charge at fixed voltage, usually around 14.4V. If the engine is running and the battery is full, it will shorten the battery life, but I don't know by how much. The Orion will lower the voltage applied to the battery as needed and extend its life. Another benefit of adding an Orion is that it prevents house loads from discharging the starter battery.
