Can I take a D+ feed to a Orion 12/12 - 30 Tr-smart non-isolated?

As the title, Can I take a D+ feed to an Orion 12/12 - 30 Tr-smart non-isolated? If so, where would I connect said D+ wire. I've been advised not to rely on the D+ auto sense on the unit. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
