Wrong consumption after installing VM-3P75CT as grid meter

Then the internal coils should be fine.

I think yes, but this should only small adjustments. The CTs are serial products, but the minimal production tolerances will be corrected in the VM3 CT port interfaces. So I think. The measuring range of the CT is huge, it has to measure very small currents as well as quite large ones.

  1. Grid cable L1 directs to “L1 MP2”?
  2. The L2 and L3 power values are right?

You can open two tabs in your browser, one with the gui page of the MPs and the other tab with gui page of the VM3. Then make some load tests with a defined consumer, water cooker, 100W old lightbulb… So you see live the values in both devices.

Yes, this illustrates how I generate energy from nothing :), right now for charging my car with 9A: not much seems to come in from the grid on the VM on the right, but the MP2 has >2000W on L1.

Before I reordered the coils, I had the same on L2, so it seems definitely a problem of the sensor.

@CH71
The error moves with the CT.

See what happens with a (temporary spare) CT from your second VM3 you will get soon.

VM3 measurement problems were often discussed here and the cause were mostly not fully “clicked” clamps, wrong phase cable assignment or damaged clamps. (See the topics shown down this webpage. For example: Victron VM-3P75CT Energy - wrong power number - any idea? - #3 by Luc )

A very good picture of not fully clicked CT is here: VM-3P75CT Phase 3; it is not being measured correctly - #7 by ejfeith
A thick grid phase cable makes it hard to close the snap fully.

So, today the second VM-3P75CT arrived. I used its CT1-sensor as spare part - now the data matches the expectations.

I also found the simple reason why the first sensor doesn’t work: the lower magnet ring has gone missing in parts (don’t whether I broke that out by dropping the thing or it is a malproduction).

Thank you for the reply and the detail photo. :+1:
Nice to hear that your VM3 is now running fine.

A broken ferromagnetic core causes magnetic flow loss so the measured value is always to low.

What is the price for a single CT as spare part?

Your new VM3 should get his original CTs. Your spare CT should be used with your old VM3. So the new VM3 will produce best results. The old one can have a tolerance but it should be very low.
