I’m trying to reconnect my Cerbo GX to the Internet and monitor my boat via VRM, but I’m running into problems and need help.
When I use the Victron Connect App on my phone, it sees the Cerbo GX and connects to it. When I click on Settings and Network, I see the marina wifi network, and when I click on Network Settings it shows as connected.
However, if I click on VRM Online Portal in the app or login to it on my laptop, at first it showed two “System overview - Grid alarm: Grid lost“ errors which I cleared, but it still shows “Last updated: 5 months ago” which was when I left the marina to go cruising. I briefly saw the “5 months ago” replaced by a squiggly line and then Connecting, but it reverted back to 5 months ago.
How do I reconnect my system now that I’m back online?
@xavierlh1 Has is recovered? I suspect it was still uploading some of the data locally stored on the device. For only a few days lost connectivity you will see it count down until it finally caught up. 13. VRM Portal
VRM “Last updated” now shows the squiggly line alternating with Connecting and Realtime, but still no data. But that’s progress. I was expecting the system to show current data first even if it took a long time to upload the old data.
It’s disconcerting but I need to learn and be more patient…
It has now been 2-1/2 days since I reconnected to wifi at the marina and VRM still shows Last updated: 4 months ago (better than 5 months ago when I first connected) and Status: OK. But still no data. I’ll keep monitoring.
Hopefully Victron folks are monitoring these threads and can plan on updating the VRM code to retrieve current data first and backfill past data in the background. This would make this functionality tremendously more useful for us folks who spend time cruising and are not online year-round - isn’t that the point of sailing !?
Thanks for the idea, I can try that the next time I go to the boat. The marina wifi was the obvious choice and it worked last winter for VRM, but I might be able to let VRM catch up faster using my phone hotspot. Worth the try.
Double-check, too, that the marina wifi is still available on 2.4Ghz; some facilities are switching over to only 5Ghz (5.8, technically) wifi, which the Cerbo can sometimes see, but cannot use - the Cerbo can only natively connect to 2.4Ghz wifi.
Thanks all. It’s working, albeit slowly. I can now see data for Jun and July – the system seems to retrieve about one month of data per day! I’ll be back at the boat on Saturday and can switch to my hotspot if there is still some missing data.
Maybe Victron engineers can figure out some change in an update to give priority to loading current data before past data, but I know from experience that any software change has to be done carefully and be well tested before release to users.
