Hi,
I have the Orion DC DC charger and Solar panel MPPT controller installed and operational.
I’ve recently installed the BMV-712 and shunt but it will not recognise the input from the Orion DC DC.
The MPPT is also connected and the shunt recognised the solar input and credits the battery level accordingly.
Orion is fed from the Van battery to input +ve. Output +ve goes to the battery and the output -ve goes to the shunt. The other side of the shunt goes to the battery -ve as the only connection.
The usual reason for this is that the negatives of the 2 battery banks are connected together, or via the chassis/hull ground. The starter battery negative and/or the chassis/hull ground must go the the system/load side of the shunt.
Thank you very very much for your help. I do have two batteries linked, need a minute to get my head around if I connect as per that image I can draw and charge both batteries, either way, really grateful. Thank you
Assuming that you have a non isolated DC to DC, the negative current charging current flows through the direct battery to battery negative, it does not flow through the DC to DC negative wire, that is only a balancing wire.
