Victron Energy BMV-712 not showing up in Victron Connect app

My Victron Energy BMV-712 (smartshunt + round puck display) is not showing up in my Victron Connect app. The round display is showing relevant data (Volts, Watts, hours remaining, ect) from the 12 Volt battery.

Strange thing is that my Victron MPPT charge controller is showing up in the Victron Connect app. So it cant be my phone. I also tried using a VE.Direct cable between the smartshunt and the MPPT but that did not do anything.

There should be a seperate listing for the Victron Energy BMV-712 in the app right?

Check if the shunt is already in the pairing data of the phone.

If so delete it and connect again over the app

I did not see the shunt in the list of Bluetooth devices of the phone. I also disconnected the shunt a few times. So power off, power on, but that did not help either.

VE direct does not work between devices like this, it works between devices and a GX monitor.

Has Bluetooth been disabled on the BMV. I do not know if you can make sure it is enabled from the head unit menus. If so it will be in the manual.

Bluetooth should not have been disabled. I definitely did not disable it. Maybe one of the neighbors did that by accident? Time to buy more USB cables, I guess?

Please post a photo of what you’re dealing with - the BMV-712 and the SmartShunt are two completely separate products, and cannot be connected to one another in any circumstance, so I’m thinking there’s a miscommunication or misunderstanding of what products you have, which renders any assistance attempt somewhat problematic.

You are right. At this point I am pretty sure I got the names wrong and should have written BMV-700 and shunt. Not BMV-712 and smartshunt.
The BMV-700 does not have Bluetooth at all. I should have double-checked if Bluetooth was present in the BMV-700 in the first place. The product image of the BMV-700 is confusing to me because it says “Bluetooth ready”. See pic in the top left.

I don’t have a clear picture of the actual shunt and display with me right now. Today I was able to connect with the shunt through a USB to VE.direct cable and update the firmware. Everything seemed to be working fine. I just need to dubble check some more YouTube video’s and tweak some settings to be done. Thx for all the reply’s.

Victron products and 12 Volt setups are a learning curve for me still.

You can add a ve direct to Bluetooth dongle to the bmv 700. Shown in the bottom picture on the left.
