VE-RS485-USB cable & ET112 meter

I have a legacy ET112 meter in the house with ca 15 m of cat 5E cable coming to the inverter outbuilding housing the Multiplus MPPT etc. I have got the above titled cable to connect the cat 5E and the 112 to the Cerbo. What I do not understand why when joining up the cat5e to the USB cable that the USB cable needs to be cut down to 20cm or less. What is the rationale?

Its an advice from victron, but it will just work with uncut wire

Cat 5 is twisted pair, so “better” in protecting from interference if wired correct

Thank you I have connected the 2 together using jelly crimps and put in a small box. I find jelly crimps really good for this sort of joint.

I have powered up the Cerbo and tested it and it alll works. I did not cut much off the end of the Victron cable just a bit off the CAT5E as that was an external grade cable and not as flexible as the RS485 cable.
