VE-Can to NMEA2000 cable is not long enough for my installation; extend or make my own cable?

My Cerbo GX MkII is installed about 20 cable feet from the nearest port on my NMEA2000 network. The Victron VE-Can to NMEA2000 cable is not long enough to reach and I need to either add a coupler and additional Ethernet cable to reach the Cerbo GX or start with an Ethernet cable of adequate length and add a NMEA2000 connector to one end so it can be connected to the N2K bus.

I am feeling somewhat cheap by balking at a $70 cable and $15 for the extension cable and connector, but the DIY cable is only $10 for the N2K end since I already have plenty of Ethernet cables. Why wouldn’t I just make my own?

After some more reflection, I have unused N2K and Ethernet cables. Cutting off ends and making the splice in the middle is at least as easy as using the field installable male micro N2K end and I already have what I need.
