This is our device. After upgrading the software we lost Remote Control Display (HDMI/Bluetooth connected to GX) and Remote Controll over VRM (Internet). The remote screen is just white and no touch response. HELP !!! What can we do?
Have you searched for the other topics like this?
You most likely have mods (gui mods, setup helper etc) installed, which are known to be incompatible.
You may still be able to access the v2 console over the lan and can rollback the versions to the backup copy.
In addition to the above, disable automatic updates. This is never a good idea. You can then check on here for issues with new firmware before updating.
We will also bring a new GX device and a display from Norway when we travel down to the boat in Greece. But it is very strange if it is a hardware failure. I am also very sorry to hear that we can not do anything remotely over VRM and Internet. I hope Victron may prioritise this issue, because it is very frustrating when it happens just after a software update. It is hard to trust a system when things like that happens.
I took the liberty of looking up your system on VRM, to see if I could find out for you whats wrong here.
And its the same as various other people have encountered: the (Classic-) UI on your GX device shows a white screen because you have installed mods on it, I presume quite a while ago, and most likely you’ve now updated your GX device without first updating those mods.
I made one change to your settings, which is that on VRM you had selected to see the Classic UI when opening Remote Console. I’ve changed that to the New UI.
Reason is that the New UI won’t break because of an (outdated) installed modification.
You’ll be able to access that as well.
To learn more about how to make the Classic UI work again, and what issue you ran into, see here:
Especially my answer in there.
Hope this helps, and hope this restores your confidence a bit.
The cause of the issue is that you (or someone else) has installed non-Victron code on that GX. Which can be super powerful and cool, but can also lead into issues like this unfortunately, at least, with the Modification checks page in the New UI, there are good options now to find out and get out of the problems.
Dear, dear Matthijs
It was so fantastic to get this email from you and thank you for the great help you gave us. I appologice to be so negative about Victron. It will never happen again
I now do understand what happened and I do learned a lot from you. I have switched the system for automatic update
It was so great of you to enter our system over VRM help us.
The New UI is now working fine over VRM and I suggests it is working find in the boat-display too (HDMI/Bluetooth connection).
Thank you again I hope you liked the photos from my installation

pwfarnell and Marc … I prefer to always have automatic updates ON and get support from Victron experts if something fails. From every failure I learn a lot Thanks
With a modified system that you are not always present at I strongly recommend disabling automatic updates. The authors of mods do not always keep them.up to date with Venus OS, if they do, the updates to the mods typically follow on afterwards.
