Can I cut off Aux and VE Direct wires and reattach later if needed?
Depends on how good you are at splicing cables. The Aux wire is no issue, just use a Wago or whatever. The VE.direct is not impossible, just annoying
But why cut them, can you not ziptie them to a negative wire thats connected to the Shunt?

VE Direct connection can just be unplugged, (as can the Aux) so why cut them??
Mike the newer version has been redesign to be weather proof, however my wife has created a nylon with a Velcro flap for covering the unused wires.
ok, was still working with the old design.
I would just tape up the unused wires, cover the connectors with insulating tape, then self amalgamating tape, then another layer of insulating tape. That should protect them until needed.
