Single Ekrano GX and Dual independent Multiplus II inverters

Good Day,

We’re looking into deploying 2x Multiplus II 48/5000/70-95 (120v) as full time inverters in a UPS style deployment.

Due to high-availability requirements at this site, the best option for redundancy appears to be running the inverters independently (i.e. not in parallel) with their output feeding independent load circuits.

I saw a mention elsewhere in the forum that a new firmware for the GX series would allow a single GX device (like the Ekrano GX) to control 2 independent Multiplus II inverters. (Sorry, I looked again and I can’t find the original thread.)

Can someone confirm if this is possible, and if so what firmware version is required?

If it is possible, will both inverters be connected via CAN? Or does one connect via CAN and the other VE-BUS?

Thanks!

I don’t believe that a single GX device can control independent inverters…
Multiplus 2 inverters use VE-Bus - not CAN. VE-Bus is based on RS485 physical layer.

The current official firmware allows 1 Multiplus to be controlled by the GX device and a second independent Multiplus can be monitored (no control) if you connect the Multiplus through a mk3 to USB interface into one of the GX device USB ports.

The V3.60 beta firmware has the following comment in the changelog

  • For systems having a second VE.Bus System, connected using an MK3-USB, DVCC parameters may now optionally control all systems. A new setting has been added to enable this; disabled by default.

The change to the DVCC parameters applies as far as I know to 2 inverters on one battery system. I do not know if this is what you were thinking of, I did post that snippet in another topic recently.
