It was already a feature request: reverse charging with the new Orion XS, but it’s still not available.
As a result the Votronic DC-DC is recommended, if you need this feature. But Votronic is stone-age compared to Orion XS.
Any schedule, when reverse charging will be implemented? As i understand, the Orion XS hardware is perfectly able to do the reverse charging, it’s just a software issue…
In some older comment I had read that the option for reverse charge is just a software-update. For example if you have 2 different batteries, the Orion XS could be used as a mediator to share the available power. Like a power-bank made up of (maybe) very different type of batteries.
A lot of older installations could be easily upgraded by just adding a modern LiFePO4 batterie, bridging different technologies with an Orion XS.
A perfect use case would be to upgrade an RV with a LiFePO4 battery without too much change in the existing system. Just as an AddOn to enhance battery capacity. This would be cheaper in some situations than throwing everything away.
Would love to see this too!! However, in the interim I wired two Anderson connectors, one nominal - charging the DomBat from the EngBat, the other reversed charges the EngBat from the DomBat. These are clearly marked and readily accessible. Just be sure to turn off the Orion before making the switch so you can change your settings after it powers on in the new configuration.
Thanks for the link, but that would be stone age compared to the brilliant technology now available.
I’m hoping for some software-Update that (optional) automatically combines 2 different batteries to act as one big powerbank using the new Orion XS.
