No decimal points on numeric inputs v3.80~48

When configuring a numeric input in Node-RED, Venus does not show decimal points even though the underlying data is stored with the correct precision. I’m trying to store a currency value for inputting prices manually into DESS.

Node-RED config (set to 4 decimal points):

Venus Console (only shows ‘0’):

VRM (correctly shows the 4 decimal points):

Hi @A-P,

The stepsize on the Venus OS GUI is capped to 3 decimals so 0.001 is the smallest stepsize allowed. It seems however the VRM implementation is not consistent with that.

@rzee Ah thank you. Any chance that can be increased a few digits? :slight_smile: My utility prices are 5 decimals (e.g., $1.23456). As a work around I have just been using whole numbers and dividing in the backend. I understand this probably not the use case Victron had in mind for this feature so no worries either way, obviously.

@A-P,

The rationale behind this design decision is that if you need more than 3 decimals, you should shift the unit (i.e. use kW instead of W). However, that of course does not apply to quantities like currency.

I’ll discuss allowing a few more digits with the UI team.

I took another look at the rate schedule from my utility and I can probably get by with just specifying everything in cents (e.g., 12.345c) instead of dollars ($0.12345). I didn’t realize that 3 decimal places worked.

The additional digits will make next to no difference in a cost calculation, unless you are selling 1000’s of kWh.

We decided to not allow more decimals in the Venus OS UI because that will add more trouble than it solves. What will be fixed is the behavior of the numeric input switch. Instead of not functioning at all, it will function with its smallest allowed stepsize instead of the configured one.
