NEW: Use an Android tablet as dedicated GX Wi-Fi Display (beta)

For clarity.
Android system indicates v1.00beta8.
Service menu indicates v1.1.6.

What should service menu indicate for beta 8 ?

It’s not from the Service Menu that is in the manual in the first post. I think you have different menus because you’ve done an APK install instead of the intended QR code install? Could you please post a picture of the entire screen where you get version v1.1.6 and maybe we could tell you what that indicates?

His screen shot looks like it’s from the debug menu of the remote console!

It is indeed from debug screen as this is the only place i could find version.

Just installed V1.00beta9
Just from user perspective: Is it possible to show some VRM data in this app, like forecast DESS price and solar?

Hi Everyone,

Version 1.00beta9has been released.

  • Handle GPU process crashes. This fixes most cases where a blank screen is shown instead of the GX UI.
  • Fix an issue in GX device discovery/tracking that causes the app to randomly connect to a different GX than the one selected. This typically occurs on networks with multiple Color Control GX or Raspberry Pi devices.
  • Add a download button to the update checker for cases where the app is not installed via the QR code method.

Starting from beta 5, if the app is installed via the QR method, you can update it by pressing the ‘Check for updates’ button in the service menu.

Hi,
Installation method should not affect to the stability.
Please check the recently released v1.00beta9, It has improvements that should fix this issue.

This app serves solely as an alternative display for GX products. If Venus OS adds this feature in the future, the app will support it automatically, no update required.

Hi,

I updated to v1.00beta9 but it unfortunately crashes at least one time a day into a white screen. I will temporarily switch back to VRM, but still have an eye on it.

Beta9 was released yesterday evening and announced a few minutes ago. Just to be sure, are you certain you installed beta9?

OK, perhaps it was beta8, so I will give it a try

Just tried again with new insights. It is still beta6 installed. There are two short messages I did not see before. The first is “Update downloaded successfully” and right after that “Update install failed”. It happens after each tap on “Search for updates”.
So I downloaded and installed it manually, now I have beta9.

Automatic update installation only works when installed via QR. We made changes in beta9 for manual apk installations now it checks for update and then shows a button for manual download.

Good you got it installed.

Will try update button next time ti see if works.

Will try next weekend!

Update 28.04.2025:
Version: Beta9
No more white screen, but still crashes at least once a day into the Reload/Restart screen. It needs a restart to get reconnected to Cerbo, but it’s working after that.

@jperez ,
Get this approx every 48hrs, is this by design?

Not by design.

Is your GX using DHCP for IP address or does it use a fix one? Which Venus OS version are you running?

Could be the case that your GX is getting a new IP address every 48h?
