Got a friend with a 8k MultiPlus II 48V. He uses solar for charging and has got a 3 fase generator for his bowthruster, which he also wants to use to charge the batteries when the sun doesn’t deliver enough power.
For some reason the generator (a Lister), seems to not want to charge the batteries. When the generator is running, the generator doesn’t even register at the AC-in with any voltage.
Does someone have an idea why this could be?

The generator will kick in, most of the times, when the other “fases” of the generator have some load as well. So I suspect the generator being picky about the fact that in this case only one of the three fases is seeing a load and maybe not presenting itself to the MultiPlus II with the only fase connected.
Is that something that is a thing? And if so… is there a solution (except for presenting loads on the other fases)?
Assuming there is physical voltage actually checked as present with a meter and the inverter is not set to ac ignore…
Most of the time you have to drop the input current limit right down, 3 phase generators dont like unequal load, so the only ‘workaround’ besides adding loads on other phases is to keep within the imblance they tolerate.
Sometimes it means running under 1/3 of its capacity per phase
