I have 3 phase configuration of 1x multi II GX and 2x multi II
I just bought Victron VM-3P75CT energy meter, but i can’t get it working in ve.can ports.
It 's working fine in LAN. but using the same upt cable and end resistors, Cerbo GX will not find it
and manual is saying that ve.can port speed must be 250 Kbit/s.
But when looking service menu, i can’t even see any ve.can port there, only BMS-Can port which has speed set in 500 kbit/s and can’t be changed.
Frankly i have no clue, how that settings/services menu should look, what should be there and what’s not.
I’m using the newest 3.60 standard release.
So i am quite confused, about those ports. Am i even looking them from the right menu?
Any ideas what might be wrong here ?
I have also done reset to Cerbo Venus.Os, with the usb stick, but it didn’t solve anything,
still no ve.can port anywhere.
Hi,
It’s MultiPlus GX (HQ2027), so does it mean, that it does not have ve.can ports afterall and all ve.can labeled ports are actually BMS-can ports. ?
I don’t believe Victron support a USB CAN adapter. Typically used on PI’s only iirc.
Probably better to buy an external cerbo and disconnect the internal GX.
I have both Multiplus II GX and USB to CAN adapter, don’t have any VE.CAN devices to test. Adapter itself was perfectly recognized by the OS and available in settings for configuration.
Used BMS Communication – the Off-Grid-Garage as a reference.
The adapter is cheap, worth to try.
It either requires unsupported mods being loaded, or is a device intended for Pi use. Also unsupported.
Not everyone is ready to go unsupported, and mods have been a huge source of instability recently.
If the OP wants a fully supported and tested solution, the best option for an old integrated Multi GX is to upgrade to an external Cerbo GX or similar.
If they are happy to fiddle with third party devices and understand the consequences, then indeed, little to lose, apart from using up the only USB port.
Just remember that because it works today, does not mean it will work tomorrow as the software stack continues to evolve.
@nickdb Absolutely agree with you regarding reliability and support.
Multi GX has limited number of interfaces. Myself using USB to RS-485, USB to VE.Direct (from Duppa) and USB hub.
Let’s call my suggestion unsupported unreliable option to save little money and play with equipment.
