I recently moved my Multiplus II GX into a server rack and grounded the rack.
Quite logically this made my WiFi reception really bad.
Because LAN is the main connection I did not expect any issues, I just assumed that WiFi could be used as a backup.
The next day I was greeted with a email warning that communication to VRM was lost. From Unifi logs I concluded that both the WiFi and LAN connections were dropped by Multiplus II GX. I could also see in the logs that the WiFi connection was lost multiple times per hour for a few hours.
To me this seems strange as the LAN connection is extremely stable. So my conclusion was that the fallback mechanism between LAN and WiFi does not work.
I rebooted my Multiplus II GX and disabled WiFi and it has been stable for roughly a week now.
This situation is fine for me but I wanted to share this information because it might highlight an issue with network manager in the GX device.
notes:
- The Multiplus GX II screen did not show any signs of error/warning. I would have expected a warning because it has lost connection to its power meter (vm-3p75ct). I think it was just in ESS-passthrough so the GX device was likely still running (not sure?)
- Interestingly the ‘uptime’ for the LAN port seen in Unifi did not reset which might mean it never lost physical ethernet connection only ip layer connection.
