Multiplus II GX displays weird symbols

Hello!

I’ve recently installed and configured MultiPlus-II 48/5000/70-50 GX.
The system seems to work correctly except for the built-in GX device display, which correctly shows only part of the characters.

Updating the firmware to the latest v3.42 and v552 did not fix the issue.

Does anyone have an idea how can it be fixed?

It may be a problem with the display controller / module.
It’s a HD44780 compatible one, so easy to replace if this is the case.
If you do a hard reset (power down completely / power up) it’s the same?

I’ve tried rebooting the GX device, power off, and back to position 1 (inverting + charging), even after the firmware update. It didn’t help

Could be a loose cable to the display, you can open it, if the unit is new you could contact your victron dealer

I assume if I open it I’d void the warranty?
However, I assume it’s no help to me, as I bought it from Germany and I doubt my local dealers would be taking care of the free repair

No you wont void the warranty, but you have to be carefull of course

The display has a data bus (4 or 8 bits) and control signals.
If any of the control signals don’t work, the display will not work at all.
If any of the data bus signals don’t work, all text will be garbled. But some reads OK and some don’t.
The pictures suggests something with the character set, which is stored into the controller.
But I could be wrong…

Yes could be, or “just” a faulty display

Marc, no offense, I was just trying to think out loud… Hope you didn’t mind… Sorry if otherwise…

No problem at all!

I’ve checked the 6-pin bus with a multimeter between the display and another device. All 6 pins work and are not cross-connected. Which, I assume, is the expected behavior. I’ll consider other repair options.
