MultiPlus-II GX 48/5000/70-48 Firmware Upgrade v502 -> v556

I want to upgrade the firmware as you can see it is very out of step. But I am nervous af.

The highlighted is what worries me … I am not familiar with these tools and do not want to break this blue monster on my wall.

Can someone teach me Greek so i can better understand the instructions?

Unless there is a specific issue you have with the current firmware, Victron recommends you leave it alone. Simply being out of date is not a reason to update complex hardware like the Multiplus.

On the other side : v556 has a lot of new features and bug corrections

Every update fixes bug and/or brings new features…
But that doesn’t mean that every system needs that fixes or features.

@CharlieMTF If you are unsure, don’t do it or ask some to help you locally.

Reading links:

What I do is print my current config and manually update my inverter after it resets. Only takes a few minutes and really don’t like the part you highlighted! Victron really need to get their act together and have the GX device configure and update everything in the system. Having multiple 1990s programs required to setup and configure everything is not what I expect from a company the size of Victron! Also, I would never do a firmware update without being onsite!

VE.Bus is over 20 years old (an based on the even older VE9bit).
No one could think about what would be possible 20 years later.

Don’t you think Victron would have made the update process easier if it would possible?

Adding new features requires to manually check and adjust the settings after the update.

The new features for the German gridcode use the AUX 2 input and if you already use AUX 2 for something else you have to adjust the settings.

So we are stuck with 20 year old hardware limitations and 20 year old look and feel software? If true, I’ll be shopping around when it’s time to upgrade my Victron equipment.

No, but here innovation would have been possible with Version ii of Multiplus and Quattro

Compatibility is the death of all innovations.
