Multiplus || GX: adding screen controls

Hey, guys!
I checked the innards of my Victron Multi Plus ||, and spotted that the screen PCB was designed for 4 buttons, not for the only one you see at the front.

Button2, button3, button4 and all resistors and capacitors wiring it are missing.
Also J102 is missing.

Could someone knowledgable suggest what those other buttons were designed for?

I wonder If I can make it 4 button Victron for myself.

My guess is that the display module is not specially designed by Victron.
It’s a more or less “standard” display module.
Somewhere in the community I read about what standard module that is.

A GX device is to complicated to control it with such a display. Maybe there where plans for more at the very beginning but in the end Victron decided to only show some very basic information.

I don’t think you can add the missing buttons, you would also have to modify the firmware for that.

@M_Lange Thank you!
Do you happen to know if anyone else was trying to add extra controls to this screen?

I’m just being curious what useful functionality could be added (or maybe is implemented in other invertor with this screen).

Could also be a standard pcb from victron and useable in multiple products and parts would be soldered for a specific product

Many manufacturers do it this way to save costs

You could try to get the parts on when you find the value’s, but it probably wont work if its not in the firmware…

Hi @dmytrocx75

Did you managed to install the buttons and test it?
Which are the results?

That J102 connector looks like a programming connector for the IC101.

And from what I am seeing in the picture and it’s more interesting, is that the IC101 is responsible for the backlight intensity of the LCD module through Q102 and this is direct proportional with the ambient light conditions.
The intensity of the ambient light is read by what seems to be a photo sensitive component, probably a phototransistor, Q101.

Can somebody confirm that the intensity of the LCD module backlight is proportional and automatically adjusted with the intensity of the ambient light?
If yes, nice feature !

Hi, no, I didn’t try

Not in my multiplus 2 GX, screen is always on and same brightness
