Multiplus II vs multiplus II gx - offgrid

What I currently have..

200ah 2x12v = 24v lifepo4 battery with internal BMSs and victron balancer

Smartshunt 300a

SmartSolar MPPT 150/35 with 1.5kW panels
SmartSolar MPPT 100/20 with 500w panels

IP22 24V 30a victron bluesmart charger

Pull start portable 2200kva generator

Recently failed 24/240 offbrand inverter

What I’m looking for
Inverter/ charger / transfer switch

Application:
Normally run solely on inverter, but when using generator would like to charge batteries and pass through to AC loads. If generator runs out of fuel, fallback to inverter without interruption.

Would like to be able to monitor (in particular charge current and stage) via victron connect if possible

There is no grid connection

I’m looking at the multiplus II or the multiplus II GX but can’t really see what the advantage of the GX would be as neither seems to work on victron connect without adapter anyway?

Currently smart network everything together which multiple doesn’t appear to support.

I can borrow a VE. Direct to USB for setup.

Note: I know the mppts are overpanelled - we’re heavily forested and don’t get anything like max power from panels. I’ve rarely approached current limits and they’re well within spec on voltage.

Hi,

If you’re completely off-grid, I highly recommend the Inverter RS 48/6000. I personally use two of these in parallel for redundancy, and I’ve found them to be extremely reliable in my own setup.

The advantage of these in parallel if one fails you don’t loose your supply unlike other inverters.

Dave.

Yeah you’d need to get the bluetooth adaptor to be able to see it on the victron connect.

Or get a cerbo and connect via rj45.

Thanks for the recommendation, but that would involve doubling my batteries to get to 48v which isn’t really an option at the moment.

I do have an entirely separate system so I’m not left entirely without power if the inverter fails but I appreciate your point.

So what is the advantage of the GX version? Just that it gives some data on a screen?

No the GX version has an integrated gx device. So you can hard wire directly to other units. But if you want to connect via bluetooth i think you need the dongle still.

But maybe the GX would work for your set up?

Thanks.

I think the GX would work with the ve.drect usb cable for one mppt and a ve.direct cable for the other.

I guess I’m just not sure if the hard wiring is useful enough to warrant the extra money.

Of course I’ve yet to figure out how to fit the shunt in in terms of monitoring / reporting voltage to the multiplus, I’ll go read the various manuals again

Wouldnt it all work on bluetooth with a dongle for the multiplus? I may be wrong.. then they could all speak to each other on a bluetooth network?

It seems to me that they should work that way, but haven’t yet found anything definitive.
